Towards the end of one year and the beginning of another the internet is always rife with ‘Predictions’; Top 10 marketing predictions for 2015; Top 10 Finance Predictions for 2015 etc
I don’t know about you but I always find that these “predictions” are always either really obvious and not really predictions at all; or a re-worded way of something that is already being done. It’s like the ‘predictors’ are a little out of touch with actual business reality at the coal face. Maybe you have a different view? We’d be interested to hear it…
One of these predictions that I couldn’t get away from in 2014 was the idea of ‘Reciprocity’…Easy for me to say, I know!
Reciprocity in social psychology refers to responding to a positive action with another positive action, rewarding kind actions. As a social construct, reciprocity means that in response to friendly actions, people are frequently much nicer and much more cooperative than predicted by the self-interest model; conversely, in response to hostile actions they are frequently much more nasty and even brutal. Forgive me for not being convinced that this word, that is extremely difficult to pronounce, is a new concept in the world of business. For me and ABL Business it has been the foundation of what businesses small and large are built upon and have been for years! It is the concept of “working together” or creating strategic partnerships, or mutually beneficial connections or even building symbiotic relationships; are all of these not the same thing?
Rather than making predictions for the year ahead for the businesses that I work with, and my own…I look for a theme that will be constant throughout the year. This theme forms the basis of all of the marketing activities that the business undertakes throughout the year.
The theme for ABL Business in 2015 is “Working Together”; you will see this thread throughout the year. We will work together with our customers, partners, funders, dealers, internal team members, suppliers and new contacts.
The theme for a customer of ours is “The Family”; this refers to the family of products that they have to promote, the family orientated culture of the business, the family of customers involved in the purchase decision making process and how they treat their suppliers like family.
What’s your theme for 2015?
