Working Together for a Brighter Future – Dispute Resolution Week 25-29 November

Dispute Resolution week is an opportunity to clear our throats and shout about a different way to resolve family disputes. Separation and divorce can be an incredibly difficult time for any family. It is one of the most stressful times in any person’s life as they wrestle with issues regarding children, the home and finances on top of the emotional upheaval of it all.

I am one of the members of the Harrogate Collaborative Law POD. A group of professionals under the umbrella of the Resolution organisation including solicitors, financial advisers, life coaches, mediators and therapists whose objective is to guide those who are separating or divorcing on a legal, financial and emotional level. Our aim is to help separating couples communicate more clearly, negotiate effectively and to develop and evaluate their own solutions to the situation in which they find themselves. It is a legal process that enables couples who have decided to separate to work with their solicitors and other dedicated key professionals to avoid the uncertain outcome of Court proceedings and to achieve the settlement that best meets the specific needs of them and their family without the underlying threat of contested Court proceedings.

Collaborative law is a voluntary process that works at the pace of the couple themselves and not the Court timetable, with an agenda that matches their individual circumstances.

Resolution puts it succinctly – “At its core, collaborative law is about reaching solutions together to ease the pain, anxiety and bitterness of a separation. It is a tailor made solution achieved with ongoing support from the right professionals. The key decisions are all made by the couple. The best solutions are those that they can work out for themselves – together.”

Doesn’t that sound like the way all family disputes should be resolved?

If you would like to know more about collaborative law and how it might help you help your clients, contacts or friends, please drop me a line and I will be happy to discuss the process with you.
